Experience the extraordinary beauty of Northern Tanzania with this carefully designed 10 Days Kilimanjaro Day Hike and Serengeti Great Migration Lodge Safari, created by Kibo Trips African Safaris, a professional tour company based in Arusha, Tanzania.
This unforgettable journey combines a scenic Mount Kilimanjaro day hike through Marangu Gate with the legendary wildlife of Tarangire National Park, Central Serengeti, Northern Serengeti, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara National Park.
Designed for travel between July and October, the itinerary brings you into Northern Serengeti during the season when enormous herds of wildebeests and zebras often gather near the Mara River. This is one of the best periods for travellers hoping to witness the dramatic movement of the Great Wildebeest Migration.
Your adventure begins in Moshi, a lively town resting beneath the southern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. After arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will transfer to a comfortable lodge and prepare for the journey ahead.
The following day, you will hike through the lush rainforest of Mount Kilimanjaro using the famous Marangu Route. Beginning at Marangu Gate, the trail leads through dense montane forest toward Mandara Hut. The hike introduces you to the natural beauty of Africa’s highest mountain without requiring a full summit expedition.
From Kilimanjaro, your safari continues toward the wildlife rich landscapes of Northern Tanzania. You will travel through the baobab country of Tarangire and onward to the world famous Serengeti National Park, covering approximately 14,763 square kilometres.
Central Serengeti is renowned for its large predator population, permanent water sources, river valleys, open grasslands, and ancient granite kopjes. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, gazelles, and hundreds of bird species can be seen throughout the year.
The safari then leads into Northern Serengeti, where the Great Migration is frequently concentrated between July and October. During this season, immense herds gather across the northern plains and approach the Mara River in search of fresh grazing.
Mara River crossings are among Africa’s most powerful wildlife spectacles. Wildebeests and zebras may gather along the riverbanks before suddenly entering the water in large numbers. Crocodiles, strong currents, steep banks, and waiting predators make each crossing dramatic and unpredictable.
River crossings cannot be guaranteed because wildlife movement depends entirely on rainfall, grass conditions, water availability, and the natural instincts of the herds. However, spending two full days in Northern Serengeti gives you excellent opportunities to search for migration activity and explore different sections of the Mara River.
After your Northern Serengeti experience, you will return to Central Serengeti before continuing into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This remarkable landscape combines volcanic highlands, forests, wildlife, Maasai communities, grasslands, and important archaeological sites.
The highlight is the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Covering approximately 260 square kilometres, the crater supports around 25,000 large mammals and offers excellent opportunities to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and the endangered black rhinoceros.
Your journey concludes at Lake Manyara National Park, known for its lush groundwater forest, elephants, large baboon troops, hippos, colourful birdlife, alkaline lake, and the possibility of seeing its famous tree climbing lions.
Throughout the safari, you will travel in a comfortable 4×4 safari Land Cruiser with a pop up roof, guided by an experienced professional from Kibo Trips African Safaris. Carefully selected lodges, warm Tanzanian hospitality, delicious meals, and flexible game drives will make every day comfortable and rewarding.
This safari is ideal for couples, families, photographers, solo travellers, and small groups who want to combine a Kilimanjaro hiking experience with the Great Migration and Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.
With Kibo Trips African Safaris, your journey becomes more than a holiday. It becomes a story of mountain forests, endless plains, thundering migration herds, dramatic riverbanks, volcanic landscapes, and unforgettable African sunsets.
